Perfect season: 39-27 against Bad Homburg — 10 games, 10 wins
The Fulda Saints close out the regular season with a 39-27 win over the Bad Homburg Sentinels to complete a perfect campaign: ten games, ten wins, 471-139 points. And it came against the very team that crowned itself champion in Fulda a year ago.
Perfect. With a 39-27 win over the Bad Homburg Sentinels on August 22, the Fulda Saints finish the Regionalliga Mitte regular season with a flawless record: ten games, ten wins, 471-139 points. The championship had already been secured a week earlier in Rüsselsheim — this home game at Sportzentrum Johannesberg was about something else: the unbeaten record, and unfinished business.
No opponent symbolises the past year quite like this one. On August 3, 2025, it was these very Sentinels who won 23-12 in Fulda and crowned themselves champions of the Regionalliga Mitte on our field. One year on, we flipped the script: this time the title stays here — and this time we win the head-to-head.
Our guests made us work for it. Bad Homburg came to Johannesberg second in the table at 6-3, having sent three opponents home without a single point this season with one of the league's best defenses. Our 39 points are the most the Sentinels have conceded in 2026. Then again, the reverse is also true: their 27 points are more than any team has scored against us this year — the sternest test in months, and we passed it.
Put in the context of the full season: 44-22 and 30-5 against Marburg, 60-20 at Kassel, 32-19 at Mainz and 68-17 in the rematch, 72-14 against Wetzlar, 54-15 in Rüsselsheim — plus the two 36-0 forfeit wins over disqualified Pirmasens. We played eight games on the field and won all eight, by an average of 47-14. You don't put together a regular season like that twice.
Now comes the part this season was built for. In the promotion playoff for GFL 2 we face the champions of the other southern divisions: on September 12 we travel to the Neu-Ulm Spartans, and on September 19/20 we host the Leonberg Alligators at Johannesberg. Whoever comes out on top of that mini-round plays second-division football next season. Ten wins is a nice number — but the most important games of the year are still ahead. The Marathon Continues.
