Top-of-the-table win in Marburg: 30:5 — defense allows just 3 points
First vs. second at Georg-Gassmann-Stadion: in sweltering heat the Fulda Saints win the top-of-the-table clash at the second-placed Marburg Mercenaries 30:5. A defense that dominated for sixty minutes allows just 3 points — the unbeaten record stays perfect.
The top-of-the-table clash on gameday 6 goes to the Fulda Saints: at Georg-Gassmann-Stadion we beat the in-form second-placed Marburg Mercenaries 30:5. First vs. second, on the road, against a team that had reeled off four straight wins since their opening-day loss in Fulda and shut out Mainz 9:0 — exactly the kind of away game you have to win if you want to stay on top.
The afternoon was defined by the searing heat. Playing Regionalliga-level football in those conditions demanded everything from both teams — respect to Marburg for the fight, and to our entire roster for carrying the rotation and the closing stretch despite it.
In the first half our offense clicked and laid the foundation for the win. After the break a few mistakes crept in and we put up only 6 points in the second half. That's on us to clean up — but stretches like that are exactly where you find out how much a team is worth: one that doesn't wobble when a single unit stalls.
That is because this win was carried by our defense — dominant across the full sixty minutes. They allowed just 3 points, a single field goal, and controlled the Mercenaries from the opening series to the last. The hosts' other 2 points did not come from their offense but from an interception returned on a two-point conversion. A performance like that — against the group's top side, still unbeaten at home, in this heat — is a real statement.
With the 30:5 we defend first place and move to 7-0 in Group B — having already won the opening-day meeting 44:22, we complete the season sweep over Marburg. That keeps us the team to beat in the promotion and title race. As always: the 24-hour rule first, then full focus on the next gameday — on June 28 we travel to the Rüsselsheim Crusaders. The Marathon Continues.
