3-0 check-in — Wetzlar up next
Bye week's over: a look back at our 3-0 start, an update from around the league, and ahead to the first-ever Regionalliga matchup with the Wetzlar Wölfe.
Three games and a bye week in, we take stock: 3-0, top of Group B, best point differential in the entire Regionalliga Mitte (+75). Before Saturday's matchup with the Wetzlar Wölfe, a quick look back and ahead.
Our first three games
- Week 1 — Home vs. Marburg Mercenaries (44-22). Successful season opener at Sportzentrum Johannesberg. We took control early, led 22-0 at halftime, and rarely let the Mercenaries get rolling — their points only came in the closing stretch with much of our backup unit already on the field.
- Week 2 — Road at Kassel (60-20). A clear road win at the Titans. We took control early (26-6 at halftime) and started rotating heavily by the end of the third quarter — every player on the roster got meaningful snaps.
- Week 3 — Road at Mainz (32-19). Our tightest, most intense game so far. Mainz proved an extremely strong, physical opponent. We started well, briefly handed the lead back through a handful of unforced errors, then regrouped and closed the game out together.
- Week 4 — Bye week. Recovery, film study, focus on the games ahead.
Around the league (through Week 4)
Group B has tightened: Marburg sits at 3-1 after upsetting previously unbeaten Bad Homburg Sentinels 24-6. Mainz improved to 2-1 with a 37-24 win over Kassel. Pirmasens stay at 0-3 after a close 27-31 loss to Wetzlar.
Group A: Bad Homburg still lead at 3-1 despite the Marburg setback, followed by Wetzlar (2-2), Rüsselsheim (1-2) and Kassel (0-4).
Up next: home vs. Wetzlar Wölfe (Week 5)
Saturday, May 30 at the Johannesberg brings the first-ever Regionalliga matchup with Wetzlar. We know the Wölfe well from years of Oberliga Mitte history — plenty of games, plenty of familiar faces. The new stage still makes this a debut meeting for both sides.
One particularly familiar face on the opposite sideline: ex-Saint Malik White, now in Wetzlar colors. He's absolutely on our radar.
How the two teams stack up:
- Fulda Saints: 3-0, +75 differential, best record in the league, rested coming out of the bye.
- Wetzlar Wölfe: 2-2, −28 differential, currently second in Group A. Uneven start (heavy loss to Mainz, narrow one to Rüsselsheim), but their road win at Pirmasens shows they're rounding into form.
On paper we're the favorites — but Wetzlar knows us as well as we know them, and a team coming off a win is always dangerous.
Kickoff is 3:00 PM at Sportzentrum Johannesberg. Bring the noise.
